Abstract
In the field of Nonlinear Dynamics the investigation of spatiotemporal phenomena, where a different number of spatial degrees of freedom can be involved, has recently gained considerable interest. The semiconductor laser in a T-shaped external cavity is a good candidate to study spatiotemporal chaos, because delay systems can be regarded as systems with one spatial degree of freedom along the cavity, as was demonstrated by Arecchi.1 We in fact have been able to demonstrate the transition from temporal to spatiotemporal chaos in our delay system.
