Abstract

Spiral waves have recently been found in optics. The mechanism responsible for such a wave formation has, however, yet to be fully understood. In this report, we address this issue through theoretical study of a three-level laser and, in particular, investigate the role of diffraction in spiral forming process in optics in comparison with that of diffusion in hydrodynamics.
