Abstract

Combination of single molecule spectroscopy and optically detected electron spin resonance (ODESR) is a sensitive method to observe an individual spin and to study the triplet state dynamics of guest molecules in low-temperature matrices [1]. In time-resolved experiments [1-3] ODESR technique has been applied to investigate the kinetics of the triplet sublevels (zero field splitting) of a single pentacene (Pc) molecules in p-terphenyl (pTP) at 1.8 K. Besides, the coherent transient phenomena (transient nutations [1,2] and two-pulse Halm echo [3]) on single electron spin of Pc molecule have been observed due to a long-timescale character of ODESR experiments when the ensemble average is replaced by the temporal one. These experiments have provided a preliminary information about the electron spin dephasing in Pc+pTP system which originates from stochastic fluctuations of the Pc triplet sublevels energy due to the flip-flops of the host pTP proton spins.
