Abstract

Distributed feedback (DFB) lasers has received much attention as a coherent light source for optical communication and high data rate transmission nets because of longitudinal mode selection and possible single mode operation. Moreover, one of the important features of such a laser is that it does not need cleaved facets to form cavity, since the Bragg scattering process in a periodic medium provides the necessary feedback for laser action, and therefore it can be integrated with optical systems.
