Abstract
Electro-optical absorption and fluorescence measurements in solutions provide valuable information about molecular dipole moments, polarizabilities, etc. Comparing electro-optical method with standard dielectric measurements to determine ground state dipole moments electro-optical method has the highly desirable advantage of needing very low concentrations. Comparing electro-optical method to solvent shift measurements to determine excited state dipole moments, the strong advantage of electro-optical method is that the dipole moments are determined in a single solvent, not averaged with unknown weighting factors over the values of the dipole moments in different solvents.
