Parametric Effects Near Period Doubling Due to Near-Resonant Losses Perturbations in a CO2 Laser

Abstract

Recently, considerable attention has been paid to the effects of near-resonant (i.e. close to subharmonic resonance) perturbations on the dynamics of nonlinear systems near bifurcation points. This interest is motivated by the fact that under such conditions the essential dynamics of the system is confined to a low-dimensional manifold. This has allowed to Wiesenfeld and co-workers to predict theoretically in Refs. 1,2 a variety of nonlinear parametric effects for nonautonomous systems near a period doubling bifurcation. Experimentally, most of these effects have been observed in a number of non-optical nonlinear systems.
