Abstract
In a Free-Electron Laser (FEL), radiation is produced by a beam of relativistic electrons traversing a periodic magnetic field structure. In principle, an FEL can be made to operate at any wavelength by a suitable choice of the machine parameters. Presently, infrared and far-infrared FELs are routinely operated as user facilities.
