Abstract

We introduce the joint Wigner function for the electromagnetic field and for angular momentum to give a phase space description for the resonantly interacting system of two-level atoms and a field mode: where YKQ(θ, φ) denotes the spherical harmonics, is the characteristic function of the joint system, T^KQ denotes the multipole operator of the atomic subsystem [1], [2], while D^(β,β*) is the displacement operator on the Hilbert space of the field W(α,α*,θ,φ) is a quasiprobability density function over the direct product of the separate phase spaces.
