Abstract

Recently optical second harmonic generation (SHG) has been shown to be a powerful tool for studying the properties of interfaces, surfaces and thin films. SHG parameters arc sensitive not only to in-plane symmetry, but also to the details of surface morphology and inhomogeneity of interfaces and thin films. This technique has already been used for studying various ultra-dispersed and inhomogeneous systems [1]. We report here the results of experimental and theoretical SHG studies of thin ferroelectric films that consist of two types of differently oriented column-like noncentrosymmelric microcrystals.
