Quantum parametric solitons in three dimensions

Abstract

We report novel bound-state solutions of a parametric quantum field theory corresponding to a two-component Bose gas interacting via a three-wave mixing process. In the case of optical fields the model is a traveling wave analog of the quantum theory of sub/second harmonic generation, used to describe squeezed states in quantum optics. The corresponding classical parametric theory is known to have stable solitons in one, two and three spatial dimensions. We find exact multidimensional bound state solutions (two-particle eigenstates) or quantum solitons in a modified version of the theory. For comparison, earlier theoretical work on quantum solitons of interacting Bose fields was restricted either to one space dimension or else to experimentally non-testable models.
