Abstract

We have used optical second-harmonic generation (SHG) in reflection to study the surfaces of single crystalline calcite, which is a centrosymmetric anisotropic material. The second-harmonic signal can be described with the following equation1: where Ep and Es are, respectively, the p- and s-polarized amplitudes of the electric fields of the fundamental beam.
