Abstract
A series of new effects are predicted in four-wave-mixing (FWM) spectra obtained with a nearly resonant pulsed pump laser and a weak pulsed probe [1]. Thus we predict that the FWM excitation spectrum, which is symmetrical in the steady-state [2], will be asymmetrical both with respect to intensity and width, when the fields are pulsed. The extent and direction of the asymmetry is a complicated function of the pump detuning, Δ1, the pump and probe durations D1,2 and the maximum pump Rabi frequency, V1, and the pump-probe time delay, Δt0.
