Abstract

During the last few years, one, two- and three-dimensional (1D, 2D and 3D) periodic dielectric structures, usually referred as photonic band-gap (PBG) crystals [1], have been intensively studied theoretically as well as experimentally [2]. The mode density in a finite onedimensional N-period layer stack has been studied in ref. [3], where a correspondence between the group velocity v-dω dk in an infinite periodic structure and the density of modes ( DOM )ρK = dkN/ of N-petiod finite 1D lattice has been found.
