Abstract

The scattering of photons by a counter propagating beam of relativistic electrons is known to increase, as a result of the Doppler effect, the frequency of a secondary beam by many orders of magnitude Unfortunately, the quantum efficiency of this process is exceptionally low because of the smallness of the Thomson scattering cross section.
