Abstract
The theory of resonant energy transfer beyond wavefunction overlap is usually regarded as occurring through two distinct mechanisms One is the long-range radiative transfer, in which a photon is emitted by a donor and subsequently recaptured by an acceptor species. The other is usually considered to be mediated by a radiationless short-range Coulombic interaction associated with the name of Förster. However, it has been shown that both mechanisms can be described using a single theory with the respective rates calculated by taking the appropriate asymptotic limit1.
