Abstract

This paper is directed at Bose-Einstein Condensation (BEC) of alkali vapours in one-dimensional or quasi-one-dimensional traps. Such traps are now becoming available for experiments. In [1] we gave exact quantum theories for certain one-dimensional ‘q-boson’ lattices which become the repulsive case of the quantum bose gas in continuum limit; and we also gave asymptotic expressions for the density-density (and other) correlators in the scaling limit thereby characterising the phase transition. Periodic boundary conditions of finite period were adopted, and we expect that these b.c.s can now be simulated experimentally — in a real closed-on-itself 1D magnetic trap, for example.
