Abstract

Precision measurement is vital to many areas of science and technology. Quantum mechanics imposes limits on the possible accuracy of measurement techniques. However by taking advantage of the exotic features of quantum mechanics such as superposition and entanglement it is possible to obtain far better accuracies than would otherwise be possible [1]. In other words, schemes with entangled states can give Heisenberg scaling 1/N (N being the number of resources used) for the accuracy of measurement, while conventional measurement schemes attain the standard quantum limit which scales as 1/N.
