Abstract

Entangled pairs of photons have proven to be a key step on the way to achieve long distance quantum communication, which in turn is one of the primary goals of quantum information science. However, schemes that rely on polarization entangled photon pairs impose high prerequisites on the transmission channels. Today’s telecommunication fiber networks suffer from polarization mode dispersion, so in order to make use of them one needs to utilize an entanglement scheme that does not rely on photon polarization such as time-bin entanglement. Previous works have shown the viability of time-bin entanglement schemes with photon pairs created by parametric down-conversion as well as with photon pairs originating from semiconductor quantum dots [1, 2].
