Abstract

Airy pulses are temporal analogues of Airy beams [1]. The analogy is based on the formal equivalence of diffraction and dispersion. They are optical pulses with the temporal field profile of an apodized Airy function. A spectral cubic phase is responsible for the generation of Airy pulses. Airy pulses are of great interest, because they are the only known pulses whose shape is unaffected by dispersion. However, their local intensity features shift in time in a self-accelerating manner [2].
