Abstract

Silica-on-silicon provides a low loss, fibre-compatible platform highly suited to integrated quantum optics experiments. Our recent developments include on-chip superconducting single-photon detectors (SSPDs) [1], and arrays of well-matched, high-purity, spontaneous four-wave mixing (SFWM) photon sources [2]. Along with well developed thermo-optic phase shifters for reconfigurable circuits, the platform provides a versatile toolbox with which to conduct quantum experiments. This platform was recently used to demonstrate the first on-chip teleportation experiment [3], as well as one of the first implementations of boson sampling [4]. Furthermore, the addition of a tungsten transition edge sensor (TES) to the surface of a waveguide has resulted in truly photon-number-resolving integrated detectors, which have been optimised to provide high detection efficiencies in the telecom band at 1550 nm [1].
