Teaching quantum electronics to Electronic Engineering undergraduates

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

In this paper the construction is described of an undergraduate course in Quantum Electronics and Lasers which has been presented to Third Year students of Electronics and Electrical Engineering in the University of Glasgow each year since 1995. When expressed in matrix form the quantum mechanics of the 2-level atomic system is quite accessible to the average student of Electronic Engineering, since it involves mathematics identical to that already used in simple circuit theory, namely systems of a finite number of linear ordinary differential
