Teaching fiber-optic communications in engineering technology program by virtual collaboration with industry

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

A fiber-optic communications course requires a deep understanding of the physical processes in the components and systems. Unfortunately, students in engineering technology programs lack the scientific background. Another challenge is that these students need to be trained as maintenance personnel. To resolve these problems, we focus our teaching on the use of corporate technical documentation.
