Abstract

Photoemission spectroscopy (PES) is a well -established experimental technique for the study of solids and surfaces. The essence of a PES experiment is to shine monochromatic radiation onto a sample and to measure the energy distribution of the photoemitted electrons. It provides a direct method for the determination of the filled electronic energy levels in a solid. The electron energy spectrum, the so-called energy distribution curve (EDC), contains features that can be associated with both the core levels and the valence-band density of states of the sample.
