Abstract

We describe a method to optimize a nonlinear optical process in the weak perturbation limit by treating the desired response as a linear digital filter, synthesizing that response into poles and zeros, and mapping onto a specific optical architecture. We demonstrate this method for the nonlinear phase shift response.
