Abstract

We study optical properties of metal nanowires and show that electric and magnetic dipole responses of the coupled-wire system can be both opposite to the excitation irradiation. This opens up the possibility to develop left-handed materials based on metal nanowires with negative refraction in the near-infrared and optical spectral ranges.
