Physics of the interaction of intense ultrashort laser pulses with metals and dielectrics*

Abstract

High temperatures and pressures are generated during absorption of high intensity short pulses. Short time scales and high intensity affect the laser material interaction. Absorption in metals and dielelectrics, material removal and energy transmission will be described.
