Abstract

Approach utilizing electro-optic (EO) polymers in hybrid waveguide is described and demonstrated. Buried sol-gel waveguides for coupling with optical fibers undergo adiabatic transition between sol-gel waveguide and EO polymer over-layer. This transition is proven via EO modulation. All-wet-etched process is presented to demonstrate inexpensive polymeric modulator.
