Imaging Through an Optical Vortex

Abstract

A bright coherent light source such as a laser can obscure an image. An optical vortex phase mask was used to create a coherence window, allowing us to eliminate the coherent glare and observe the image. Coherent noise reduction, coherent nulling for astronomical detection and sensor protection applications are possible.
