Optical nanostructures provide hyper-resolution of single molecule dynamics

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Because biological signals in vivo are frequently single molecule responses, individual molecular identities and fluctuations of enzyme chemical kinetics become essential challenges. Optical nanostructures allow zeptoliter focal volumes to reduce the number of substrate molecules seen to measure single enzyme fluctuations and to identify individual molecules in nanoscopic flows.
