Real-time Edge Enhancement Using Dye-doped Liquid Crystal Films

Edge enhancement, a type of intensity filtering of two-dimensional optical image, was demonstrated using dye-doped photorefractive liquid crystal films. We calculate the expected images using four wave mixing geometries, which show good agreement with the image that we experimentally observed using dye-doped liquid crystal as the photorefractive materials.
