Abstract
We study stimulated emission in nanocrystalline silicon superlattices using variable stripe length method. No optical gain is observed using continuous wave pumping. A superlinear, fast component is observed using high intensity pulse pumping and gain up to 50 cm-1 is measured. The prospects for a silicon-based laser will be discussed.
