Self-Focusing Collapse of Higher-Order-Gaussian Beams

Abstract

We investigate theoretically and experimentally the collapse dynamics of a higher- order-Gaussian beam in a nonlinear Kerr medium. Suprisingly, we show that the spatial profile collapses to a ring rather than to the Townes profile.
