Modulation of transmission in silicon photonic crystal waveguides using optically induced plasma

Abstract

We demonstrate modulation of transmission of a silicon photonic crystal waveguide using optically generated plasma. We show a potential for GHz performance and the presence of a slower thermo-optic effect at high optical pump power.
