Abstract

We demonstrate that photon motion in a random laser medium with spatially nonuniform gain is, strictly speaking, not diffusion. In this regime, the effective photon residence time in a scattering medium decreases with the increase of gain, which causes a number of interesting features in the random laser behavior.
