Spinning Tops in External Fields. Nonadiabatic Alignment in Complex Systems

Abstract

Short, intense laser pulses can be used to excite rotationally-broad, aligned wavepackets with fascinating properties. We extend the alignment concept to dissipative media and propose applications for quantum information, molecular switches, and guided molecular assembly.
