Tunable 3-dB Multimode Interference coupler

Abstract

An electrically tunable multimode interference (MMI) coupler/splitter is demonstrated. The device operates by modifying the phase of the multiple images in the MMI to fine-tune the 50:50 output power split ratio or other arbitrary ratio.
