Active optical waveguides with suppressed mode competition

Abstract

Novel active fiber design strategy is proposed, which separates index and gain profiling. Several fiber amplifier constructions were simulated numerically and stable suppression of higher-order-modes was demonstrated when gain is saturated by the fundamental mode.
