Realization of an Ultrafast Silicon Kerr Switch

Abstract

We demonstrate that cross-phase modulation induced nonlinear polarization-rotation can be used to realize sub-picosecond Kerr switching in a silicon waveguide using only a few watts of pump peak power. Our experimental results agree with theory.
