Self-trapping of light due to balance between saddle-shaped diffraction and hybrid nonlinearity

Abstract

Saddle-shaped diffraction and hybrid nonlinearity in a two-dimensional ionic-type photonic lattice leads to self-trapping of a new type of discrete spatial gap solitons, with phase and spectrum characteristics different from all previously observed gap solitons.
