Better than gold: plasmonic materials for telecom wavelengths

Abstract

Surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) at telecom wavelengths have much better confinement in degenerate wide-gap semiconductors than in silver or gold. For the same confinement, the SPP loss in semiconductors is lower than that in gold.
