Multimode Interference Fiber Optic Vibration Sensor

Abstract

A fiber optic vibration sensor based on Multimode Interference (MMI) effects is demonstrated. The proposed sensor is tested by characterizing its static-bending response and its response to fixed external frequencies. Induced vibration is measured in the range from 0 Hz to 2.5 kHz; the main frequency component overcomes the first and second harmonics with a mean difference of 42 dB and 38.6 dB, respectively.
