From Loss-Compensation to Amplification and Lasing in Active Nanoplasmonic Metamaterials

Abstract

Using a full-wave Maxwell-Bloch Langevin approach we show how, by using gain, we may overcome losses in double-fishnet negative-index metamaterials, as well as achieve net steady-state amplification and nanoscopic lasing over a broad ultrathin area.
