Abstract

We present a systematic formalism for characterizing partial polarization of non-stationary random beams in time and frequency domains, including polarization equivalence relations. We analyze the temporal variation of the degree of polarization of an electromagnetic pulse with mutually delayed orthogonal components. We also discuss the effects of a temporal optics system on such partially polarized pulses.
