Boosting Electrooptic Modulators for Optical Communications

Abstract

Though electronics advance to terahertz speeds, optical modulators are unable to keep pace with low drive voltages. Modulation instability is harnessed to compensate the modulator’s weak response, and substantially reduces bit-error rates.
