A Photonic Crystal Hollow-Core Cavity for On-Chip Molecule Sensing

Abstract

We design a hollow-core cavity in a three-layer photonic crystal with Q=1.7×105. The high air-energy ratio αair≈67% of the cavity mode allows detection of small refractive index changes ~δn=3.4×10−5 induced by external substances.
