Fiber-optic Probes for Deep Tissue Imaging - A Microscope in a Needle

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Imaging optics on the tip of single-mode optical fibers incorporated into hypodermic needles can image deep in tissues in three dimensions with microscopic resolution. We discuss optical design and show examples of optical coherence tomography, fluorescence and elastography needle imaging.
