Diffraction-limited Photonic Micro-Spectrographs for Astronomy

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Compact spectrographs at high/medium resolution are challenging due to their multimoded nature. Multimode photonics techniques such as photonic lanterns enable compact photonic diffraction-limited spectroscopy in astronomy for the first time, while maintaining collection efficiency.
