Nonlinear refractive index larger than linear index: towards all-optical switching with terahertz bandwidth using epsilon-near-zero thin film

Abstract

We experimentally show that the nonlinear real index of an indium tin oxide thin film can be much larger than the linear part in epsilon-near-zero regime. This allows for greater than 10dB amplitude modulation in transmission with 500 fs recovery time.
