EM Wave Propagation in a Medium with Anisotropic Dielectric and Magnetic Tensors

Abstract

Dependence of phase velocity on propagation direction is shown to be decoupled from birefringence. The latter is propagation difference for two polarizations; it depends on anisotropy of impedance tensor: square root of mu / epsilon.
