Abstract

We study the effect of the linear coupling on self-phase modulation (SPM) in a nonlinear directional fiber coupler (NLDC) when a single-input excitation is considered. Our results show that the linear coupling in NLDCs compensate the SPM reducing the spectrum of the pulse when a interchange of optical power begins between both NLDC fiber cores.
